Cookie
Policy
GadgetsWriter's transparent, globally compliant breakdown of how we use cookies — fully aligned with GDPR, CCPA, and India's DPDPA 2023.
This Cookie Policy is published by GadgetsWriter ("we," "us," or "our"), operating at gadgetswriter.com. It explains what cookies and similar tracking technologies we use, why we use them, and what rights you have — wherever in the world you are located. This policy complies with GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and India's DPDPA 2023. By using GadgetsWriter, you acknowledge this policy and may manage your preferences at any time using the controls provided.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your browser or device when you visit them. They serve as a foundational layer of how the modern internet works, enabling websites to recognize your browser, remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and deliver content relevant to your interests. Every major website depends on cookies to function correctly and efficiently.
Technically, a cookie is a key-value pair: a small string of data tied to a label. Cookies do not contain executable code — they cannot run programs on your device, access files on your hard drive, or read cookies set by different websites. They do not directly identify you unless you have voluntarily shared personally identifiable information through a form or login screen.
Beyond traditional cookies, several related technologies perform similar functions and are covered under this policy: Web Beacons (transparent pixel images tracking page views), Local Storage (browser-based storage), Fingerprinting (browser attribute collection), and Pixel Tags (code snippets monitoring interactions). The term "cookies" in this policy refers to all of these technologies collectively.
Cookies are fundamental to the modern web. Without them, logging into websites, maintaining a shopping cart, or saving your preferences would be impossible. The vast majority of cookies are entirely harmless and exist solely to make browsing easier for you.
How GadgetsWriter Uses Cookies
GadgetsWriter is an independent technology review publication. Our editorial mission is to deliver honest, research-backed gadget reviews, buying guides, and technology explainers. Cookies are integral to our reliable operation, audience understanding, editorial improvement, and the financial model that keeps our content free for all readers.
We use cookies for four primary purposes: essential functionality (navigation, search, forms, secure admin access); analytics and performance (anonymized, aggregated reader insights informing our editorial calendar); personalization (remembering your preferences across visits); and affiliate tracking and advertising (recording referrals when you click product links to retail partners, enabling commission earnings that fund our editorial independence).
Session management, forms, navigation, and secure editorial access.
Anonymous, aggregated data on content performance and reader behavior.
Remembering preferences and surfacing relevant tech reviews.
Referral tracking to support our independent editorial operations.
Types of Cookies We Use
Cookies are categorized by lifespan (session vs. persistent) and function. Below is a detailed breakdown of each category on GadgetsWriter.
Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies
Essential cookies are required for GadgetsWriter to function. They enable page load stability, CSRF protection on contact forms, spam filtering on comments, WordPress login sessions for our editorial team, and load-balancing. They also store your cookie consent decision. These collect no marketing data and are never shared with advertisers. Under GDPR, CCPA, and DPDPA, essential cookies are exempt from consent requirements — though you may block them via browser settings with possible functionality impact.
Analytics & Performance Cookies
Analytics cookies collect anonymized data about page visits, scroll depth, time on page, traffic sources, device types, and geographic region. This aggregated data is used exclusively for internal editorial improvements. Our primary provider is Google Analytics 4 (GA4), configured with IP anonymization, 14-month data retention, advertising features disabled, and Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal respect. We do not sell analytics data to advertisers.
Functional / Preference Cookies
Functional cookies remember choices you make on GadgetsWriter — your cookie consent status, notification dismissals, article position, and filter selections. These are entirely first-party cookies set and read exclusively by GadgetsWriter, never shared with any external company. Disabling them won't break core features but may cause preferences to reset on each visit.
Marketing, Advertising & Affiliate Cookies
Marketing cookies track browsing behavior to deliver relevant advertisements. On GadgetsWriter, these may be set by Google AdSense and follow your activity across multiple sites. Affiliate tracking cookies activate when you click a product link to a retail partner — a cookie records the referral ID so that qualifying purchases (within 24–90 days) are attributed to GadgetsWriter, enabling our commission earnings. These cookies do not store your payment information on our servers. Our affiliate relationships are fully disclosed on our Affiliate Transparency page.
Third-Party Cookies & Integrated Services
GadgetsWriter integrates several third-party tools that may independently set cookies on your device, governed by each provider's own privacy policy. We have reviewed each partner for compliance credibility but do not control their cookies directly.
When you interact with embedded content — playing a YouTube video, clicking a social share button, or posting a Disqus comment — those platforms may set their own cookies independently of your GadgetsWriter consent preferences.

Our legal basis for non-essential cookie processing is consent (Article 6(1)(a)). For essential cookies: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)). We never rely on legitimate interests for analytics or marketing cookies without explicit consent.
Your Rights Under CCPA / CPRA — California Users
If you are a California resident, the CCPA as amended by CPRA grants you specific rights. GadgetsWriter is committed to honoring these rights in full.
Right to Know: Request disclosure of categories of personal information collected, sources, business purposes, and third-party recipients over the past 12 months. Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions. Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: GadgetsWriter does not sell personal information. However, sharing data with advertising partners for cross-context behavioral advertising may constitute "sharing" under CCPA. Disable Marketing Cookies via our preference manager to opt out. Right to Correct (CPRA): Request correction of inaccurate personal information. Right to Non-Discrimination: We will never deny service or charge different prices because you exercised CCPA rights.
To submit a CCPA request, email gadgetswriter@gmai.com with subject line "CCPA Request." We respond within 45 days.

Your Rights Under DPDPA 2023 — Indian Users
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and DPDP Rules, 2025 (notified January 3, 2025; partial effect from November 13, 2025; full effect expected May 2027) establish a comprehensive data protection framework for Indian residents. GadgetsWriter processes personal data of Indian users and acts as a Data Fiduciary under the DPDPA.
Under DPDPA, our consent must be freely given (no coercion), informed (you know what you're consenting to), unambiguous (clear affirmative action required — browsing alone is not consent), and unconditional (site access is not conditional on accepting non-essential cookies). All four requirements are met by our consent banner design and this policy.
Obtain a summary of personal data GadgetsWriter processes about you.
Request correction or deletion when original processing purpose is fulfilled.
Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies via Cookie Preference Manager at any time.
Raise a privacy concern with GadgetsWriter. Acknowledged within 48 hours, resolved within 30 days.
File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.
Nominate another individual to exercise your data rights on your behalf.
Data Fiduciary Declaration: GadgetsWriter (operated by GW Desk) is the Data Fiduciary under India's DPDPA 2023. All Data Processors (third-party services in Section 04) are contractually bound to applicable data protection laws. Grievance Officer: gadgetswriter@gmai.com
DPDP Rules 2025 Update: Notified January 3, 2025 — provides implementation guidelines including consent manager requirements, data breach reporting timelines, and data principal rights procedures. GadgetsWriter monitors MeitY guidance and will update this policy accordingly.
Your Choices & Cookie Controls
GadgetsWriter provides multiple mechanisms for managing your cookie preferences. You are never locked into a choice — update preferences at any time.
When you first visit, a banner appears. Choose Accept All, Reject All, or Manage for category-by-category control. Your choice is saved for one year.
Click "Cookie Settings" in our footer at any time to reopen the preference panel. Changes take effect immediately and are saved for 365 days.
All major browsers allow you to view, manage, block, or delete cookies directly in their settings — overriding our consent banners.
Visit Google Ad Settings, aboutads.info, or youronlinechoices.eu (EU) to opt out industry-wide.
If your browser sends a GPC signal, GadgetsWriter treats this as a request to opt out of behavioral advertising data sharing where technically feasible.
Enable Limit Ad Tracking on iOS (Settings → Privacy → Tracking) or Opt Out of Ads Personalization on Android (Settings → Google → Ads).
Browser Cookie Controls & Do Not Track
You can delete or block cookies directly through your browser's settings, independently of GadgetsWriter's consent interface.
Do Not Track (DNT): GadgetsWriter acknowledges DNT signals on a best-effort basis. Because third-party providers process cookies independently, we cannot guarantee complete DNT compliance across all scripts. Our Cookie Preference Manager combined with browser-level blocking remains the most reliable opt-out method.
Cookie Retention & Data Minimization
GadgetsWriter applies the principle of data minimization — we only collect and retain cookie data necessary for the specific, stated purpose. Each cookie has a defined retention period (see Section 05). Google Analytics data is configured with a 14-month retention period after which session data is automatically purged. Consent records (gw_cookie_consent) are retained for 12 months. You may request deletion of any data we hold by emailing gadgetswriter@gmai.com. For third-party cookie data, contact each provider directly via Section 04 links.
Cross-Border Data Transfers
Some third-party service providers — particularly Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and Amazon Associates — process data in the United States and other countries. For EU/UK users: Transfers to the US are governed by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). Google is certified under the EU-US DPF. For Indian users: Cross-border transfers are governed by the DPDPA 2023. GadgetsWriter will comply with any transfer restrictions the Government of India implements. We do not transfer data to countries explicitly restricted by the Government of India. For California users: We ensure all third parties are contractually bound to handle data per applicable law.
Updates to This Cookie Policy
GadgetsWriter reviews and updates this Cookie Policy at least annually, and whenever we integrate new tools, change advertising partnerships, or when applicable laws change. This policy was most recently updated on May 7, 2025 to incorporate DPDPA 2023 and DPDP Rules 2025 compliance.
For material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date, display a notification banner for at least 30 days, and in some cases notify newsletter subscribers. Continued use of GadgetsWriter after any revision constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
GadgetsWriter will never use cookies to collect sensitive personal information such as financial records, health data, government IDs, passwords, or biometric data. Our cookie practices are reviewed annually by the GW Desk editorial team.
